NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma's defense was in midseason form in the opener against Louisiana Tech. The Sooners shut down Louisiana Tech for much of a 48-16 win Saturday night. Oklahoma held the Bulldogs to just 245 yards. Oklahoma's defensive swagger could be tested Saturday at Tulsa.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Salvador Perez homered and drove in three runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Texas Rangers 4-3 last night to snap a three-game losing streak. Perez went deep in the third with Alex Gordon aboard. Greg Holland pitched the ninth for his 41st save in 43 chances.

WACO, Texas (AP) - Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty has two cracked small bones in his back. Petty had an MRI yesterday. It was a day after taking an early shot to his back and playing only the first half of the 10th-ranked Bears' season-opening 45-0 win over SMU.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas quarterback David Ash will miss this week's game against BYU. He missed most of last season with concussion symptoms and was injured again last week. Ash took several hard hits in a 38-7 win over North Texas. Longhorns coach Charlie Strong says Ash didn't show any symptoms during the game.
