First Ice, Now Snow!

We are still recovering from our first ice storm of the season which was the worst in our history, and now we’re bracing for our first snow storm of the season! That storm will move in during the day on Friday bringing rain late in the day. As it passes through it will pull down very cold air which will allow the rain to change to snow. The storm will quickly move out of the area on Saturday leaving us with snow flurries possible during the early afternoon hours. Now for the million dollar questions: what time, how much and where? As of this writing, snow will develop near the Kansas state line by early evening Friday. Snow totals up there could be as high as 6 inches or more. The snow line will head south to areas north of I-44 by midnight totaling 2 to 4 inches. The rain will change to snow along and on either side of I-44 overnight into Saturday morning. Areas from Oklahoma City to Tulsa to Pryor to Jay could end up with 1 to 3 inches. By Saturday morning the snow line could be as far south as Ardmore to Muskogee to Fayetteville, AR. Totals in that area will be much lighter around a half to one inch and could be mixed with freezing rain or sleet. This will be a wet snow with no ice accumulations expected. However, the extra weight will put additional stress on weakened or broken tree branches and power lines which could cause additional outages and slow down the recovery of power.

it is apparent to me that i live in one of the worst areas hit by this ice storm. there are lines down everywhere and 2 electric line poles are down on 28th st near lewis(one has a transformer and is blocking a driveway). the damage in woodycrest is phenomenal. there are many people in this area that must go to work and it is dangerous to drive down the street. our neighborhood has not be touched by anyone except privately paid help or the owners themselves. i feel like the city has abandoned us. we are the worst hit and nothing has been touched by electric workers. we are high tax payors and i am not asking for priority help, but just some help. i am afraid that we are victims of the thing to do is the politically correct thing to do. there are several elderly and infirmed people that live in this neighborhood and they need the same help(with electricity) as others in this city. several friends that have seen this area are also of the opinion that the damage is devastating and cannot believe that nothing has been done.

JD,

The National Weather Service in Tulsa says 3 inches of snow near the Oklahoma/Kansas state line with lesser amounts to the south. I'm not seeing where the Norman bureau is mentioning the I-44 corridor. They do mention 5-6 inches of snow, but that is for north-central Oklahoma. There will likely be some locally heavier amounts of snow as is the case with all storms whether it's snow or rain.

Thanks Kevin KTUL Webmaster

Why is it that the Norman bureau of the National Weather Service is predicting 4-6 inches along the I-44 corridor, but the Tulsa media is only predicting 1-3 inches? Which is it?

I have a cousin who lives in Tulsa.Shae had one tree in her front yard, and another in her back yard. When that storm hit, they fell down and criss-crossed over her house.
