We are still recovering from our first ice storm of the season which was the worst in our history, and now we’re bracing for our first snow storm of the season! That storm will move in during the day on Friday bringing rain late in the day. As it passes through it will pull down very cold air which will allow the rain to change to snow. The storm will quickly move out of the area on Saturday leaving us with snow flurries possible during the early afternoon hours. Now for the million dollar questions: what time, how much and where? As of this writing, snow will develop near the Kansas state line by early evening Friday. Snow totals up there could be as high as 6 inches or more. The snow line will head south to areas north of I-44 by midnight totaling 2 to 4 inches. The rain will change to snow along and on either side of I-44 overnight into Saturday morning. Areas from Oklahoma City to Tulsa to Pryor to Jay could end up with 1 to 3 inches. By Saturday morning the snow line could be as far south as Ardmore to Muskogee to Fayetteville, AR. Totals in that area will be much lighter around a half to one inch and could be mixed with freezing rain or sleet. This will be a wet snow with no ice accumulations expected. However, the extra weight will put additional stress on weakened or broken tree branches and power lines which could cause additional outages and slow down the recovery of power.
