First Ice Storm?

Everything is coming together to bring Oklahoma its first ice storm of the season!

Very cold arctic air will invade the area during the day on Saturday. That will be followed by moisture from a western storm system. By late Saturday night the temperatures will be approaching the freezing mark.

The light rain will start to freeze on contact by Sunday morning and could possibly become heavier by Sunday night through Monday. Monday’s morning rush hour could be slick with some significant ice near and north of I-44. Southeastern Oklahoma should stay as all wet. The ice may begin to mix with snow by Tuesday into Wednesday morning as the storm begins to pull away from the area.

We can expect winter advisories, watches and warnings to be issued between now and then. Everything should start as light rain as we approach the weekend and then begin to change over to freezing rain and maybe some sleet by Sunday morning.

As with any storm, this forecast could change as we get closer, but don’t forget that it doesn’t take much ice to cause significant travel problems. As always we will keep you covered. Frank Mitchell

Power is out in our house still but the neighbors across the street have it. Is there a number that we should call to let someone know this? Our house number is 4049 E 46th Pl., Tulsa.

I feel sorry for the people that got hit hard with this ice storm because we were in this position last year in tahlequah. But what about the snow are we even going to get any? And why doesn't snow big like it used to when I was small.

You should be able to find out if you mother has power by looking on TV it may say where the power is out and if you're power is out to i reccomend that you buy her a cell phone ha ha

Is there a source for finding out where the power is out? My mom's lives alone and is elderly. She can't be reached by phone.

Ms. Terry Smith
We live in Chelsea in Rogers County. It's raining, thunder with lightening. Ice has formed on power lines and some limbs have broken off trees. Powerlines have ice accumulation of about an inch thick. The electric has gone off a few times, but is on now. Power lines are sagging due to the weight of the ice. We plan on staying in and not venturing out in this weather.

Just to let you know my wife, daughter and I got home shortly before midnight tonight and I already noticed a thin layer of ice on the back of my car. I live about a mile North off of I-44 near Memorial in Tulsa. We went outside about 12:30 to spray our car windows with de-icer and sprinkled ice pellets on our driveway. I have a feeling that this storm is going to be a bad one. Hopefully not like we had last January but anything can happen here in OK..

I heard there was going to be bad fog on the news last night at 10 o'clock. You must have missed it Barbara. I believe they even mentioned it would be worse south of I-44.

Michelle
I work for a local school . Have you seen anything to indicate it will be too bad and will there be any school closings or the possibility of them? We are very busy right now and I would just hate to be delayed in getting all the work done before we have Christmas break. I hope it does not reach Muskogee.

The strangest thing today (Sat. 8th) is that this morning we took off from Grove, headed towards Tulsa. We took the route thru Jay and up to Kansas to jump on 412. We checked the channel 8 website before we left and we listened to the radio station for news. Neither place mentioned the dense fog. We made it as far as the toll booth on 412 and opted to go up a mile to the Burger King on 412 and turn around and come home. People coming back this way from Tulsa were telling us it was bad there also. Visibility was absolutely horrible and guess what? No one mentioned the fog! What's up?

Here we go again. Maybe it won't take the utilitiy companies 2 weeks to get our water and electric back on this time if it gets bad.

How long until we can enjoy the first snowfall? I can't wait, sould we seed some clouds and maybe get a measurable amount of snow? I'm not sure that works but it's a nice thought...

Jim S
What is the long range prediction for snow this winter? Can I look forward to spending some time with the kids sledding soon?
