FRANK'S WEATHERCALL'S FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often am I called?
You are called whenever the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Alert, A Severe Thunderstorm Warning or a Flash Flood Warning that includes your registered street address. This could be anytime of the day or night. You may choose to receive alerts for only Tornado Warnings or only Severe Storms or only Flash Floods or any combination.

How quickly will I be called?
The system will begin notifying within 1 minute of receiving the alert from NWS. However, if several thousand people need to be notified it could be as long 5 minutes before everyone is called.

What if my phone is busy?
If your phone is busy, the system will attempt to call you again, one minute later. The system will make 3 attempts to reach you.

What if my phone is not answered?

What does the service cost?
The price of the service is $6.00 per year, for each street address you register in the system. Click here

Do you know that a simple phone call could save your life? That's what Frank's Weathercall is all about. I am so excited to be part of bringing this brand new technology designed to save lives in times of severe weather. News Channel 8 is the only tv station in Green Country to offer this service.

Here's how it works: when you sign-up at KTUL.COM, you indicate what address of yours you'd like to be included in our warning system. It can be your work, home or loved one's address, or all 3 if you'd like to register 3 times. Then you indicate what phone numbers and email addresses you'd like to receive the warnings to. You can include your cell phone, home phone, work phone, etc.. Finally you indicate which warnings you'd like to receive besides Tornado. The others include Severe T-Storm Warning and Flash Flood Warning. And that's it! This way you'll know about life theatening weather when you are asleep, not home, or out of electricity.

We've made it very affordable. It's only $6 per year which amounts to about 50 cents per month. It's clearly worth saving your life for.

You will go into our system and start receiving the warnings you asked for to the numbers and email addresses you inserted for the address you included. In other words, your phone will ring anytime your address is within the severe weather warning. My messages to you will let you know what warning you are under and tips on how to stay safe.

We've already had more than 2000 people sign up for this great one of a kind service just in time for our recent rounds of severe weather. Thousand of phone calls went out to those who signed up warning them of tornados, severe thunderstorms and flash floods. Before our next severe weather outbreak, go to KTUL.COM, look for the Weathercall link and sign up for the phone call that could save your life!!!

For those without a computer, we do have an application that will be mailed. The service is only $6.00 per year, per address. Anyone in the United States can sign up for this. For example: You live in Tulsa, your child is going to college in Texas and your elderly parents live in Hawaii. You can sign up all three addresses for only $18.00 a year.

What you get for the $6.00 fee is notification via telephone or email (your choice) when a Tornado Warning - Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Flash Flood Warning is issued by the National Weather Service for your address. You may choose 1 - 2 or all 3 of the notifications for the same price.

Hello Frank, I have been a fan since your first appearance

Jeff
Franks WeatherCall works...sometimes! During the tornado warnings on 6/6, it worked great. But during the thunderstorm & flood warnings on 6/8-6/9, no calls at all. I did get the email alerts. I have reported this to KTUL & to WeatherCall.net.

Hopefully they will fix this system..not sure I want to bet my life on this!!

When the storms came thru McAlester Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. We did not receive any notification. Why? I was really depending on the call especially at night.

We just got back from the garage. We left our double wide when the golfball sized hail hit. Hailed 10 minutes like rain. Got very, very, very windy and I took digital pics of some of the hail on the deck. It was deafening. Is quieter but we are keeping an eye on K8 and the sky from our windows.

Don't know where I could send pics but would love to send them to K8. If you know, email Leeiam2002@hotmail.com

thx

My husband was just driving home from McAlester and as he came over the hill, headed north, just this side of Canadian, he said there was a lowering over the area of Longtown. I got home just in front of him and it was hailing here in Arrowhead Estate and winds straight and strong from the East.

Watching skies here.

what if I move? Will it cost an additional 6.00 and after that will it be 12.00 each year?

Janie
I signed up for the phone call and was really hoping it would let me sleep better, but if its going to come after the tornado passed, then maybe its going to make me too complacent. By the way - I noticed that you are offering a mail service - but what earthly help would mail service of a tornado warning be? What is the purpose of that?

Janie

This is such a great idea. Now maybe I can rest assured, after living through the 1993 tornado that went through Catoosa. Thanks, Frank!

Thankful in Owasso
I am so glad we signed up for your Weather Call. Tuesday morning storms were so loud we couldn't hear the tornado sirens sounding in Owasso. Your call got us up so we knew what was going on and what to expect. Great system! You guys, as always, are awesome!

kristi
I'm not so sure that Weather Call is working correctly. I woke concerned for the bad weather I was hearing. I then saw that Creek County had a Servere Thunderstorm warning and Tulsa county had a Tornado Warning. I had not received my first severe weather call. Only after the storm area passed Sapulpa, which is where I live did my cell phone ring, My 1st listed #. Then about 5 min later the 2nd line rang.

Thought it maybe just had a glitch the 1st time, but the second round of storms came barreling in. Hail strong winds, some rotation. No call. After the storm passed the call came and then about 5 min. later the second.

Then once again with the 3rd, less severe storm, the call came in after it had almost already passed.

A good system for after the fact, but prior to giving sufficient warning is not working well. I would expect my call to come when the Severe weather notice 1st comes up on the screen for my county.

I'm hoping with the next line of storms, that the problem resolves itself as it is not beneficial to my family after the fact. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks Kristi Willis

Diana
Please remind us of the differences between the flooding siren and the tornado alert siren.

Regina Clouse
This will give me peace of mind and I won't need to worry about something going on while I'm sleeping. I know I'll be notified when I need to be ready for any weather emergency.

Tammi H

Darlyne and Myself would like to be called if there is a tornado Warning.

I have this service and it is wonderful. I live in a rural area with NO warning system. This is a true Blessing.

I grew up in SE KS- specificly Independence and rest of family in Elk County my 1st home. ANYBODY who lives in that Verdegris Valley area understands yrly flood and severe storm problems-including small unconfirmed twisters-issues. It is a routine part of life, unfortunately. I still would have it over huricannes or earthquakes. In '86 my little family had to stay with others during record flood and then went thru process of getting things back and lasting affects. I also used to live in JeffersonCity, Mo area during 1st marriage and saw floods each yr there. It still bothers me seeing those killed or displaced by floods but the flooding it self is just old news in repeat to me and prep and recovery is same. My prayers go to all who suffer due to weather disasters.
