A Few Changes, Additions

I've made a few changes and added some things to make the site a little more user friendly.

One of the changes has been in the videos section of the site. Some felt it would be easier if I split the videos into categories (i.e. news, weather, sports, etc.). So, I have now done that. You'll find there are sections for all three of those as well as Cool Schools, People Making A Difference and Waiting Child. I plan on adding other sections (user-submitted videos, bloopers, KTUL archives, etc.) later.

Another thing many people have been asking about is Frank's WeatherCall. It's our new system for alerting the public on the threat of severe weather. You can sign up for alerts on your phone or e-mail and your address is pinpointed to make sure you only receive a warning if your particular area is threatened.

There are three places you'll find the link to sign up. One of them is by visiting the weather page (http://www.ktul.com/weather/). The link is the first one in the list at the left -- Frank's WeatherCall. There is also a banner on the home page near the bottom and another banner that you'll find throughout the site. You can also just click HERE to get there directly.

Look for more changes to KTUL.com coming soon.

Thanks
Kevin

Jeff,

Thanks for your input. I know the credit card story is from Friday, but we bumped it back up because we were getting a lot of requests for it. The rest are all today stories. In fact, all of the stories from Local Headlines were posted this morning. Can you e-mail me at webmaster@ktul.com and let me know which headlines you're seeing that are 3, 4 and 5 days old?

Thanks Kevin

jeff
there's still too much outdated news getting posted on the front page (sometimes stories 3 and 4 and 5 days old!!!) and the links to stories on the left side are so narrow its almost impossible to tell what an article is about from all the abbreviated text.

other local news sites completely revolve all of their content in a day, and often even more than that. ktul needs to keep up, or it's losing impressions on my screen.

I see the one you're referring to now. I have added the 'Raw Video' to that title as well. I was gone during that time period, so I'm not sure why the actual story wasn't posted. I'll have to see if I can find it and post it over the top of that one.

Thanks Kevin

I was told that a story with audio aired about the Kadashan dam near Coweta, including an interview with George Stunkard who is a member of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission, the agency I work for. I am attempting to locate that video and assumed that was it.

I saw some videos titled "Raw Footage," and figured there was no audio on those, but the one I am referring to doesn't seem to carry that helpful information.

Mark,

The particular video you are referring to has no reporter track. It is just raw video of the aerials from Coweta. However, there is audio as I am listening to it as we speak. You can hear the helicopter rather loudly.

Why does the sound not work in most of the news videos? All sound functions on my computer are fine; I perform both audio and video editing on this computer. For example, when I clicked to play the Coweta flooding story, I could here the intro commercial sound, but when the actual story started, the sound went dead.

If this is inherent in flash video and your station is committed to using flash video, then how about a little help for this malfunction. Surely I am not the only person to experience this problem.

Here's what you need to know about rural addresses:

Yes, 911 addresses can be assigned a latitude and longitude coordinate. However, some of the VERY rural addresses are not readily found in the geocoding sources we use. If you enter your address and get an error message, the best thing you can do is follow the instructions on the screen to use the Google map to locate yourself. After you've placed the cursor where your house is, click the mouse and a red push pin appears. Then click on UPDATE MAP to save this location.

Thanks Kevin KTUL Website Manager

We are so disappointed that Frank's WeatherCall cannot be used by rural areas. Is there any chance that we will be included in the future? All roads are numbered, plus, we do have the Rt. and Box #s.
