At Mounds High School, they emphasize extracurricular activities, but the focus remains on academics. Amber Butler is certainly good at both, with a 4-point-0 grade point average and a starting spot on the school's basketball team. Amber has been playing basketball since she was in the third grade and likes it a lot. She has also been riding horses since she can remember and has been roping since she was 11.
But, if she had to choose between basketball and roping or riding?

"I wouldn't choose."
When it comes to roping, what does she enjoy the most?
"It's just a rush when you back up in the box, you just can't hear anybody else."
Amber says her dad coaches her some.
"Well, I can hear him, but he doesn't count."
(Keith) - "Is that difficult working with your father like that or do you really enjoy it?"
"No, I enjoy it. Sometimes it's difficult, but you get over it."
All the extracurricular activities don't bother her when it comes to school work. Amber has a 4-point-0 grade point average, which is pretty impressive.
"It's not too difficult. You just gotta get your home work done and turn it in on time and that's pretty much all there is to it."
Amber is a three-time member of the Oklahoma National Honor Society.
