Tulsa - Location, location, location. That familiar mantra used to describe the value of real estate, which also applies to the area around a baggage claim as soon as that buzzer goes off.
And they're off! It's Samsonite Sally out of the gate, with Pink Petals coming around the bend, and here comes Red Lady Roller, oh, and she's scooped quicker than a spill by Downy.
This is pole position in the race to get your bag. Dewey Bartlett is hoping to tone down the race track atmosphere of baggage claim, with an idea imported from Sweden's airport.
Dewey Bartlett says, "You just paint a line, about 3, 4, 5 feet out, put a couple signs up saying please honor the line."
You only cross the line when your bag finally comes out.
"I think it would be good to have a line." Sarah Masters, fresh off a flight, and calling the action at pole position. "We've got the kid right there, I mean he's right there. Yeah, he's ready to grab it, but what about the other people."
Bartlett says, "It gives more people the opportunity to spot their bags and there's a little more civility and a little less jostling around."
Masters says, "Its good for elderly people, for people maybe that are more slow and they can't really reach in there and grab it really fast."
An easier way to spot and grab, that's also easy on the airport's budget.
"If we had $20 suggestions like this everyday, the world would be perfect," says Bartlett.
Airport officials hope to have one of the first lines painted sometime this spring. They'll start the new program with one carousel and see how well it works before expanding it to others.
