The Senate has voted to remove a growth trigger that has reduced funding for state highways. Under a previous state law the Oklahoma Department of Transportation was to get $50 million a year for roads and bridges if state revenue growth hits 3 percent. Revenues are not projected to grow that much next year and that would reduce ODOT's allocation to $17.5 million.
Sen. Kenneth Corn of Poteau says his bill elevates highways to the top of the Legislature's funding priorities.

The measure was approved by the Senate on Monday and sent to the House where a similar bill has won committee approval.
The future of the two bills is uncertain because of slowed state revenue growth.
