There are many ways you can get involved in the fight against cancer.
You can volunteer at the hospital or with a support group, chair a fundraiser or make a financial contribution. Or, you might want to donate something more personal, like your hair. Seventh grader Molly Summers made a difference doing that.
Last week, the National Junior Honor Society at Broken Arrow's Centennial Middle School organized this hair cut off called Got Hair, Got Game.
Their hair would be donated to make wigs for cancer patients. Several of the staff members at Centennial have had or are undergoing cancer treatment. And, so is Molly Summers' father, Duane.
"It's a great feeling knowing that Molly did it, you know, because I have cancer," he said.
Since age 9, Molly has had very long hair, but deciding to cut her hair was not a hard decision.
"No. Why? Because my dad has colon cancer and it was just me giving back to what he gave to us," Molly said.
Teenage girls take pride in having long hair, but they say they'd do it again to help in the fight against cancer. It was a team building experience for everyone.
"It was truly amazing, like everybody was clapping and cheering, cheering us on, it was really fun," she said.
And, the difference that this daughter made for her father, in his fight against cancer, will be a life long bond between the two.
"Whether it's for me or whether it's for someone else, she did it because of me, and I'll always appreciate that."
I wish you all the best - Holly
