Last fall, seven-year-old Kyle Spriggs was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Now once a month the Spriggs family makes the six-hour trip to Dallas from their home in Miami so Kyle can receive chemotherapy.

Early Tuesday morning, while the family ate breakfast at Denny's near the Ronald McDonald House, thieves broke into their car and stole Kyle's backpack containing his medication, medical records, a portable playstation (PSP) and several other items.

When Dallas police responded and heard the family's story, they collected donations and surprised Kyle at the hospital with a new PSP and money.

Today is Kyle's birthday.

Dallas police say they have not made any arrests in the case.

News Channel 8 will update on this story tonight during our 10 p.m. broadcast.
