Some environmentalists and business owners say spring rains make it essential a judge rule quickly on Oklahoma's legal action against Arkansas poultry companies.
Oklahoma wants to stop these companies from spreading chicken waste in the Illinois River Valley. A judge has taken the request under advisement.
The state says spring rain figures to cause more bacteria to run off into rivers and streams and seep into the groundwater. Those rains have already caused flooding in the valley.
Ed Brocksmith is founder of the group Save the Illinois River. He says relief is needed as soon as possible. Terri Ussery, who runs a Bed & Breakfast near Lake Tenkiller, says the water is dirty looking.
Attorneys for the poultry companies argue that the state is relying on junk science and is using witnesses with an agenda against the chicken industry.
