Last year, NewsChannel 8's Mark Bradshaw reported on the increase in pharmaceuticals ending up in drinking water after being flushed down the toilet. But, a semiannual event in Tulsa seeks to reduce that threat.
The Metropolitan Environmental Trust (MET) is hosting its Fairgrounds Pollutant Collection Event April fifth and sixth at the Tulsa Fairgrounds. It's a free opportunity for people in Tulsa County and the surrounding area to responsibly dispose of unused or unwanted household chemicals.
Things that can be disposed of are household cleaners and toxins, yard-care products and pesticides, acids, caustics, thinners, household flammable liquids, bullets (50 caliber and smaller), smoke alarms, all automotive fluids, mercury thermometers, unused prescription medications, pool chemicals and oil-based, aerosol and hobby paints.
Latex paint, tires, computers and commercial waste will not be accepted.
The event includes the cities of Bixby, Broken Arrow, Claremore, Collinsville, Glenpool, Jenks, Owasso, Sand Springs, Tulsa and Tulsa County.
