Oklahoma House Speaker Chris Benge says it's taking longer than expected to reach agreement on a $41.6 million supplemental funding request for public schools.
Benge said Thursday that House and Senate negotiators are making progress in filling a school funding shortfall for the fiscal year that ends June 30.
He says an agreement could be announced next week.
But the Republican House speaker says completion of the public school budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 will take longer.
Three weeks ago Benge said he expected lawmakers to meet Tuesday's deadline for presenting a public school budget to the governor.
Lawmakers face no penalty for missing the deadline and it has not been met in the past.
