The Hillcats (30-1) came in at No. 1 for the seventh consecutive week in the NAIA National Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday. RSU is riding the nation’s longest winning streak at 17 games after winning the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament last week in Lubbock, Texas.
Coach Lloyd Williams’ squad will make its first appearance in the National Tournament next week as the favorite to win the championship. The 32-team bracket is scheduled to be released Thursday at noon by the NAIA office.
Oklahoma Baptist retained its No. 2 ranking despite being upset in the quarterfinals of the SAC tournament. Oklahoma Christian reentered the poll at No. 22 while Northwestern Oklahoma State narrowly slipped out of the rankings, coming in at No. 26 in total votes. Both teams will join the Hillcats and Bison in the National Tournament field. The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma also made the tournament by making the finals of the SAC tournament.
