The murder trial against the owner of a Tulsa day care charged in the death of a 2-year-old began Wednesday. Jurors heard the 9-1-1 call made by the defendant, Vicki Chiles.
Chiles is charged with the first-degree murder of Joshua Minton. Jurors heard testimony from nine witnesses, including the boy's mother.
"It was hard to sit that close to her without wanting to harm her," said Kathey Mayo, Joshua Minton's aunt. "I wanted to hurt her all day. And, I was here yesterday, too when she was here. And, it's easier to look at her now. I have a little bit of forgiveness."
Chiles nodded along with the tape as jurors heard a hurried, but not frantic Chiles explain to the operator that Minton was not breathing. The courtroom was silent when the tape was finished.
Authorities say Minton died after his mouth was taped shut and his hands taped together.
Police say Chiles admitted taping the boy saying she did so because he wouldn't be quiet during nap time.
Chiles is also charged in an unrelated case with abuse of an 8-year-old special needs boy.
