Austin, TX - A resolution in the Texas House of Representatives claims the state's sovereignty under the 10th Amendment of the Constitution.
Governor Rick Perry says the Obama Administration is overstepping its bounds. Perry says stimulus money comes with strings attached that attempt to increase the size of state government.
"Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas," Perry said at a Tuesday press conference.
But, this is nothing new. Oklahoma was apparently ahead of the curve. Last year, state lawmakers made national news when they passed Joint House Resolution 1089 -- "Serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates," the bill read.
The resolution hit a road block in the state Senate, however, and the legislature adjourned without the Senate taking action.
The 10th Amendment states that "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
