After several years of declining teenage birth rates in Oklahoma the teen birth rate jumped nearly 7 percent from 2005 to 2006.

The state Health Department says the birth rate to females ages 15 to 19 rose from 55.4 births per 1,000 in 2005 to 59.5 per 1,000 in 2006.

From 1991 to 2005 the state's teen birth rate had fallen by 25 percent.

Nationwide the teen birth rate rose 3 percent after 14 years of steady decline.

Oklahoma has the seventh-highest teenage pregnancy birth rate in the nation.

Annette Leon with the Tulsa City-County Health Department says parents need to become more comfortable in talking to their children. She says the biggest complaint she hears from teens is that parents don't talk to them about sex and its consequences.

NewsChannel 8 Talkback: Teen Birth Rate Rises After Years Of Decline
KAF
This is sad really. There is no reason in the year 2008 that anyone should "accidentally" get pregnant. There is such easy access to so many methods of birth control that that is no longer an excuse. Society has made it acceptable to have children at any time under any circumstances. People no longer have to be adults, or married or financially prepared in order to procreate and the children are the ones who will suffer. Most teenagers are not prepared for motherhood in any way, shape or form. They cannot provide financially, emotionally or educationally for these children. We literally have a generation of fatherless, uneducated, emotionally bankrupt children being spawned. No one seems to care.. taxpayers pay for them and then they grow up to become leeches on society.
It is no wonder the crime/suicide/teen pregnancy rates are so high in the U.S. Morality is buried out there somewhere with the dinosaurs.
