A man has been taken into custody after an 8 hour standoff.
The Sheriff's Office said the man is a Hurricane Katrina evacuee, who has had his rent and other expenses paid by the government with subsidies specifically for Katrina victims.
According to authorities, the man's subsidies were canceled as of March 1. When they ran out the man was suppose to continue paying his rent at the Riverchase Apartments, but did not. The apartment's owners went through the legal process to have the man evicted. When sheriff's deputies arrived to serve the eviction Thursday afternoon the man refused to open the door and stated he had a weapon.
Authorities said they shot tear, hot, and cold gases into the apartment in an attempt to get the man to give up, but nothing worked. They eventually cut off his electricity, water and gas. Finally, shortly before 10p.m. authorities were able to go into the apartment and take the man into custody.
One member of the Tulsa County Sheriff's tactical team was cut while taking the man into custody. They plan to have him checked out at a local hosptial.
