The George Kaiser Family Foundation has donated $3 million dollar to development at Turkey Mountain.
The first phase of the project will include large climbing boulders, restrooms, increasing the size of the parking lot and providing horse trailer parking for equestrian activity on the wilderness trails.
Access to the wilderness trails that are used for horseback riding and mountain biking also will be improved.
The first phase is expected to be finished by the end of this year. Phase two will include a shelter and seating area with a great view of the city.
The second phase includes a more handicap-accessible trail to the West Bank Trail, a gate that would close the area after hours, a kiosk providing maps, and color codes along the trail to help guide users.
Tulsa Police say they are working to keep Turkey Mountain safe and g-rated for all audiences.
"They just opened the the westside trail and it runs by one areas where we've had some troubled so we're going to agressively get on it and make sure that doesn't happen," says Captain Rick Helberg.
