A former basketball coach and science teacher at Norman North High School has been arraigned on charges of sexually abusing a student.
Forty-four-year-old Vicky Lynn Lewallen was arraigned Thursday on two counts of forcible oral sodomy. A not guilty plea was entered on her behalf, and she was ordered to appear in court on Sept. 8.
A 17-year-old girl testified during Lewallen's preliminary hearing last year that she and Lewallen had an intimate relationship. Lewallen resigned from the school last June after being suspended.
She initially was charged with two counts of rape by instrumentation, but a judge determined there was not enough evidence to bind her over on those charges.
If convicted, Lewallen faces up to 20 years in prison on each count.
