Governor Brad Henry (web|news) says President Bush (web|news|bio) wanted to come to Oklahoma to survey damage from a killer tornado but can't because of a scheduled trip to Israel.
The governor said today that the president telephoned him last night as he was looking at the damage in Picher where at least six people were killed by Saturday's tornado.
Henry says he doesn't believe the storm will get in the way of the buyout of property in the lead-contaminated Superfund site and may even speed up the process.
The governor also says the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security are working with survivors while state officials are helping provide food, shelter and other basic needs.
