An Oklahoma City medical center now has a 120-ton cyclotron to help in treating cancer patients.
The machine delivered to ProCure Treatment Center splits the atom and accelerates cancer-fighting protons to nearly the speed of light. The radioactive protons are then delivered in precise doses to kill tumors.
The center is due to open next summer and officials say it will be just the sixth in the country that provide proton therapy to treat cancer.
An estimated 1,300 patients are expected to receive treatment at the center each year.
