The Oklahoma House has passed legislation that calls for prenatal classes to include instruction on the risks of drug and alcohol use during pregnancy.

The House voted 95-0 for the measure Friday. It now goes to the Senate for final passage.

House author Rep. Kris Steele of Shawnee says the bill is designed to warn expectant parents of the harm that drinking and drug use during pregnancy can have on an unborn child and the mother.

The measure would require prenatal classes already available to expectant mothers in Oklahoma to include information on the risks of drug or alcohol use during pregnancy.

Classes also would include information on the risks of underage drinking to help new parents prevent their own children from using alcohol.
