A tornado will not stop what could be the last graduating class from Picher High School.
While the Class of 2008 is on its way, the tornado earlier this month shut down Picher-Cardin and Quapaw schools for the remainder of the school year.
Today, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved the plan.
The future of Picher schools is in doubt. They don't know if enough students will register to keep the doors open next fall.
Picher, a mining boom town in its heyday, has seen hundreds of people leave because of the massive piles of lead-contaminated mining waste left behind.
The area is a 'superfund' site and many residents have had their homes bought out by the government. Several others are also in the process of the buyout.
