Shawnee teenagers are being praised for their lobbying efforts to pass a bill requiring that drug and alcohol abuse education be included in prenatal care for expectant parents.
A dozen members of the Shawnee Youth Coalition were on hand Tuesday for a ceremonial signing of the legislation by Gov. Brad Henry (web|news) .
The bill was introduced by Rep. Kris Steele, a Shawnee Republican.
Henry and Steele say passage of the measure shows that young people can make a difference if they get involved in the legislative process.
