Locust Grove - An unthinkable crime has outraged a community.
Police say 35-year-old Hank Montgomery is charged with raping an 81-year-old woman in Locust Grove about a week ago. And, it's the second time he's been charged with rape in just three months.
Montgomery bonded out of jail after being charged with raping a 22-year-old woman in February. In the latest incident, police accuse Montgomery of talking the 81-year-old woman into letting him into her house, saying he had car trouble and he had to call for help.
The Mayes County sheriff says Montgomery allegedly held the victim at knife point for more than an hour while he sexually assaulted her. He then robbed the woman and fled.
Melvin Coday, also age 81, doesn't mince word when he talks about the suspect.
"I think they just ought to dispose of him, that's what I think," Coday says. "If it was my mother, I'd take care of him and I don't care who knows if I said it."
"People are shocked he got out on bond in the first place," says Crystal Weimer. "They are going to do the same thing to him, kill him, get rid of him. Anybody like that is worthless."
Since the attack, Crystal says people in Locust Grove have been upset, frightened, and angry.
"I think they ought to hang him up in the town square," says Clifford Hanna. "It's just terrible. That lady, that old, and he has to go and do something stupid like that it's terrible."
The bond in the first rape case was 50-thousand dollars. Montgomery now has a higher bond -- 750 thousand dollars and now faces a longer list of crimes.
"He has been charged with sodomy, rape by instrumentation and first degree robbery," explains Sheriff Frank Cantey.
An assistant district attorney tells NewsChannel 8 she will be back in court soon to file another motion to increase the bond in the first rape charge against Montgomery, making it less likely he will be able to bond out again.
Montgomery is due back in court on May 21st.
