Oklahoma City - The surveillance video from inside an Oklahoma City pharmacy that was robbed at gunpoint last week shows the pharmacist -- now charged with murder -- fatally shooting a 16-year-old suspect.
Pharmacist Jerome Ersland was charged with first-degree murder in Oklahoma County court Wednesday.
A surveillance video from inside the Reliable Discount Pharmacy shows two young suspects, including 16-year-old Antwun Parker, entering the store. The other suspect points a weapon at employees while Parker can be seen trying to put on his mask. A short time later, Parker can be seen collapsing to the floor while the other suspect runs out the door.
Ersland is seen on the tape exiting the store in pursuit of the other suspect. But, he soon returns, walks by Parker's body, and apparently retrieves a second weapon. Ersland returns to where Parker is lying and shoots him five times in the stomach before returning to the register and calling police.
Parker died at the scene. An autopsy indicates Parker was still alive after suffering the first gun shot wound to the head.
Ersland says he shot Parker after the teen tried to get up. That is not seen on the surveillance tape. KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City reports Ersland told them he was shot at by the suspects, but investigators say the only shots fired were from Ersland.
Ersland was charged in the case because prosecutors say he exceeded his right to use deadly force.
