Police Chief Ron Palmer's statements from this morning's press conference are as follows:
"The officers behind me and detectives behind me deserve the credit for coming to the conclusion that Robert Kastner in fact killed his wife. They deserve a lot of credit and I am pleased with the work they have done in assuring that justice was brought to the case, at least that Kastner is brought to trial on this charge and the courts will decide his fate later on.

The details of this case are pretty clear. There was no home invasion and Mr. Kastner lied about that. It was proven pretty early on that he lied about that. I think he is in part responsible for creating some concern among the citizens of Tulsa for their safety. and by saying that someone in fact broke into his house, shot his wife and shot himself when that was clearly not the case.
My sympathy and the department's sympathy goes out to the family, friends, children of Lori Kastner. They have lost their mom, they have lost their friend, they've lost someone that is dear to them. But, the crime was not done in the manner that John Robert Kastner suggested.
In my estimation, at best, Kastner and what he told police and what he did to his family is a fraud. He is a fraud. There were fraudulent statements made from the get-go in this investigation. Which were proved by good detective work to be just that. Lies. At worst, and the courts will prove this, John Robert Kastner is a cold-blooded murderer, killing his wife, then blaming others for that crime.
In his actions, he has in fact created I think some form of terror, through the media and the citizens of Tulsa, that again they are not safe in their homes. It concerned me greatly when I heard of this event early Wednesday morning that the paper is reporting the latest home invasion, the news is reporting the latest home invasion. And, I guess I would say not to chastise the media here, but as a general comment, all that is reported is not necessarily fact. And, that to create that type of concern among the citizens of Tulsa was not justified in this case as the facts will prove I believe in a court of law that John Robert Kastner did in fact kill his wife.
What goes on from here is that Kastner is in fact in custody. He will be charged with first-degree murder. The detectives behind me and other people in the department will continue to gather evidence. We will work with the district attorney to make sure that the prosecution is completed to the best of our ability and their ability and the fate of John Robert Kastner will be left with the courts and the court of public opinion later on.
There has to be some type of reasonableness in regards to how items are reported. And, how we might jump to conclusions when in fact those conclusions are not true. John Robert Kastner lied to us from the moment we responded to his home. He lied to the dispatcher, he lied to his friends, lied to his family. And, for that no one should be responsible but him."
Kastner remains in the Tulsa County Jail without bond. He was charged Friday morning with one count of first-degree murder in his wife's death. Funeral services for Lori Kastner are later today at B'Nai Emunah.
