Fernandez Sets American Junior 5k Record

That time easily beats the previous record of 13:29.98, set by Stanford’s Chris Derrick earlier this year. It was also enough for a fifth-place finish in the race, which included the top athletes from across the country. It was the highest finish by any collegiate athlete in the event.
Fernandez, who just capped a remarkable freshman season for the Cowboys by winning the 1,500-meter NCAA championship, also holds the junior world record and NCAA record in the indoor mile, as well as several Oklahoma State school records.
