A Lawton man who pleaded guilty to killing a soldier while driving drunk was sentenced to a lengthy prison term Tuesday.
Dustin Havron, 24, pleaded guilty in Comanche County District Court in May to one count of first-degree manslaughter.
He was charged with causing a 2007 traffic collision that killed Army Spc. Jared Reid. Comanche County District Judge Keith Aycock followed a plea deal reached between prosecution and defense counsel and sentenced Havron to 25 years in prison with 10 years suspended.
He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs and will have to serve several years of supervised release.
Havron hesitated to continue with the proceedings when he learned he will have to serve 85 percent of the remaining 15 years. After conferring with his attorney, he proceeded.
