For many of those in West Tulsa, North Tulsa or in the downtown, their biggest complaint is the lack of a grocery store.
But they have a bright blue beacon of hope on a street corner nearby. The store is near the downtown on South Phoenix Avenue.
If the blue building doesn't get you. The inside will.
Customers at the Blue Jackalope are like kids in a candy store - literally.
"It's perfect. It's my neighborhood. Now I can walk or ride my bike here," says Katrina Morrison.
Scott Smith, president of Crosbie Heights Neighborhood Association, opened the store 6 weeks ago.
"This is where I live and we don't have any grocery stores anymore," he says.
He converted this old church into the Blue Jackalope to save the neighborhood from being a "food desert."
"That's being in an area where have no access to quality food. I think I'm filling that need here," Smith says.
The store is open everyday except Wednesday. If the store is a success, Smith plans to open more stores in the downtown area.
