Tulsa - A local businessman is throwing his hat into the ring for Tulsa City Auditor.
Preston Doerflinger is an entrepreneur in the health care sector and has founded or co-founded multiple businesses, the first in 1996, when he was only 24 years old. He's calling for aggressive oversight of taxpayer dollars at City Hall.
"I have experience building successful businesses from nothing. I am responsible for the financial oversight and viability of numerous companies, some with millions of dollars in revenues," Doerflinger said. "That uniquely qualifies me to carefully watch over every dime in our city's coffers and to lead Tulsa in operating more like a business and less like a bureaucracy."
"I believe one important reason I have enjoyed success in business is that I am a conservative results-oriented businessman. I want to be a workhorse, not a show horse. If elected, I will proactively seek ways to improve performance, increase efficiency and provide the best, most useful data to city leaders," Doerflinger added.
A father, Doerflinger said he has chosen to enter the race for City Auditor because he wants to ensure Tulsa's future prosperity.
"The auditor's office plays an important role in the community's economic development," he said. "Municipal policy makers rely on data from the auditor to make informed decisions. I know firsthand that city government impacts businesses. I want to make sure that impact is positive, allowing businesses to prosper and succeed."
Doerflinger also expressed concern over the city's current financial crunch and recent scandals involving city business.
"The city has limited resources, so it must operate at maximum efficiency and with total accountability. Times like these call for a little old-fashioned belt tightening and better transparency," he said. "My fellow citizens and I must make wise, sometimes difficult spending decisions every day. We should expect no less from city government."
An Oklahoma native, Doerflinger holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Nazarene University, and is a registered respiratory therapist. He and his wife, Jill, have a 5-year-old son, and reside in Tulsa.
