Tulsa - The Tulsa Board of County Commissioners has approved the agreement between the City of Tulsa, Tulsa County and the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office over payment for inmates at the Tulsa County Jail.
The agreement was reached during a mediation session in May. The City of Tulsa will pay the Tulsa County Criminal Justice Authority 45-dollars per inmate per day to house municipal inmates.
That rate increases to $54.13 per inmate after the first 35 municipal inmates held in a 24-hour period. The rate is consistent with other cities in Tulsa County.
Previously, the City of Tulsa was not charged for housing inmates.
County Commission Chairman John Smaligo represented Tulsa County during the negotiations.
"I believe now that we have this pay for service agreement with the City, we are treating all municipalities in Tulsa County equally when they use the jail and I believe that is in the taxpayers best interest."
