When you visit the new BOK center, will you be safe on the streets of downtown Tulsa? The doors to the BOK center will open to the public this weeks end, and with thousands to attend events at the center security will be a big job.
What was once an ink and paper rendering, is now reality.
"I was definitely excited."said Drew Joels
Businesses are also look ahead to the arena's opening.
"We've been anticipating this for several months now.... But come the eagles - September 6th... I'm pretty much booked five to two in the morning." said Trevor Tach with SoChey Jazz Cafe.
Still, success can't come without security. The police department plans to have extra officers at events. The number in the force is contingent on the crowd size.
"Every event is going to be different... depending on what type of event it is, how many people are going to be there -/// is going to depend on how we respond."said Officer Jason Willingham
The plan for a packed house calls for an extra 40 officers outside. Those officers will direct traffic,alo9ng with patrolling and and watching parking lots.
"It reminds people that it is ok - it is safe that they are watching our backs."said Tach
Police say off duty officers will get overtime pay to avoid pulling staff from regular patrols. The BOK center will also have their own security inside. As for medical issues, Emsa will keep medics in the arena for events.
The public open house is this Saturday starting at 10:00 in the morning. Garth Brooks is set to cut the ribbon.
The Eagles are the opening act September 6th. On Tuesday The Eagles signed on for a second concert set for November..
