President Bush (web|news|bio) arrived at Tinker Air Force Base about 9:15 this morning for a brief visit in Oklahoma.
Among those traveling with the president aboard Air Force One were Senator Tom Coburn and Representatives Frank Lucas, Mary Fallin, John Sullivan, Tom Cole and Dan Boren.
In brief remarks to reporters the president said he's monitoring Hurricane Ike as it approaches the Texas coast.
He urged Texans to "listen carefully" to authorities in the Galveston area. Officials are calling for evacuation of Galveston and low-lying areas of Houston.
At Tinker the president honored Dan Rooney of Tulsa and Karen Stark of Edmond for projects they created to help soldiers.
He will also take part in a discussion about health care and attend a fund-raiser for Republican presidential nominee John McCain (web|news|bio) .
