Tulsa - Former Oklahoma Sooner Allen Patrick has been released from the New York Giants' practice squad.
Many thought Patrick would actually be promoted from the practice squad to the team after an injury suffered by Danny Ware in the Giants' opening win over Washington.
Instead, the Giants claimed running back Gartrell Johnson off waivers from the San Diego Chargers.
That left Patrick as the odd man out and on Tuesday, he was cut from the practice squad.
Patrick was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2008 NFL Draft. After being waived by the Ravens, he was picked up by the Cleveland Browns last year.
The Giants signed Patrick in May.
At OU, Patrick was the backup behind Adrian Peterson as a junior until Peterson suffered a collarbone injury. Patrick would start five games and rush for 761 yards and four touchdowns.
As a senior, Patrick rushed for 1,009 yards and eight scores.
