Police are investigating after a bus driver with the Sand Springs school district is accused of making improper sexual advances toward a student.
The allged incident took place early Tuesday morning.
Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter tells NewsChannel 8 the bus driver, identified as 62-year-old Charles Lloyd Degarmo of Sand Springs, had a previous relationship with a family member of the victim and that he was allowed entrance into the home. That's when police say he allegedly made improper sexual advances toward the victim, a 17-year-old female.
"The gentleman left after she indicated that she was not interested in his advances," Carter says. "But, we do believe there was inappropriate contact with the juvenile."
Carter says detectives had been speaking with the district attorney's office to determine if charges should be filed in the case. Later in the afternoon, Degarmo was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail on a charge of sexual battery.
Degarmo resigned from his post on Tuesday afternoon.
