Tulsa - Jermaine Carter's 18-yard touchdown catch with 3:37 left in the game lifted Langston to a 20-19 win over Southern Nazarene Saturday in Langston.
Southern Nazarene (4-4 overall, 2-1 Central States Football League) took a 7-0 lead on its first possession, scoring on a 10-yard run by Derick Perkins with 12:52 left in the first quarter.
Langston responded late in the first with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Darrion Lewis to Carlos Ross.
The Crimson Storm would lead 13-7 at halftime after a pair of Ryan Brock field goals in the second quarter.
Langston took its first lead on Ross' 1-yard run with 8:51 left in the third quarter, but it didn't last long. Brady Wardlaw connected with Josh Woods on a 28-yard touchdown pass to give SNU a 19-14 lead with 2:13 left in the third.
Things looked bleak for the Lions in the fourth quarter when they lost the ball on a fumble at the Southern Nazarene five yard line. But, the Lion defense forced the Crimson Storm to punt and this time, Langston would complete the drive.
On a big third down and 11, Ross broke loose on a 27-yard gain to keep the drive alive. Then, Lewis found Carter in the end zone on the very next play.
Southern Nazarene moved to the 24 yard line on its next drive, but with only six seconds left, Brock was called upon to win the game with a 41-yard field goal. But, the snap was bobbled and there was no kick.
Langston escaped, 20-19.
Ross led all rushers with 80 yards on 22 carries and also had four catches for 93 yards. Lewis passed for 342 yards and two touchdowns.
Brady Wardlaw led SNU, passing for 238 yards and a touchdown. Kevin Brooks caught eight passes for 114 yards. The Crimson Storm was held to just 24 yards rushing on 26 attempts.
Langston will play at Bacone next Saturday while Southern Nazarene will host Northwestern Oklahoma State.
