Weleetka - The National Weather Service
(web | news) says storm damage near Weleetka in Okfuskee County is consistent with a small tornado.
The storm moved through at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday morning. Officials from the National Weather Service and Okfuskee County Emergency Management surveyed the damage and determined that a weak tornado was briefly on the ground.
The tornado began about a mile west-southwest of Weleetka and disippated about a half mile west of the town. The twister severely damaged the roofs of two barns, tore numerous shingles from a home and uprooted a few trees.
At its largest, the tornado was about 150 yards in width and traveled for about a half mile. Based on the damage caused, it's estimated the wind speeds were between 70 and 75 miles per hour, which would give it a rating of EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
A tornado warning was never issued for the area, but a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect at the time.
