OSU Considering Holistic Approach for Admissions
posted 12:28 pm Sun November 18, 2007 - Oklahoma City
A proposal pushed by Oklahoma State University's faculty senate would allow the university to make it easier for students to gain admission to the Stillwater campus. The faculty senate wants OSU administrators to consider items other than test scores and grade point average when considering the admission of a student.

The senate says a holistic approach to admissions also would consider an applicant's unique talents, leadership skills and life experiences.

NewsChannel 8 myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?According to the proposal, other universities that have used such an approach -- including Oregon State University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of California -- have seen increases in minority, nontraditional or international students.

A spokesman for OSU interim President Marlene Strathe says it is too early to discuss the recommendation, pointing out it would need approval from administrators, Oklahoma A&M regents and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
