posted 10:20 am Sat November 24, 2007 - Medicine Park
A sport utility vehicle carrying six people flipped on Interstate 44, killing five of the occupants but sparing a child. Three adults and three children were riding in a Ford Explorer when the SUV tumbled over a guardrail on I-44 near Medicine Park and onto intersecting Oklahoma 49 about 4:45 yesterday afternoon.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Tom Pixton says the SUV was traveling south on the highway when it hit the guardrail, slid down the structure into the overpass and then dropped to the highway below, landing on its top.

NewsChannel 8 myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? An incident report says excessive speed may have played a role in the crash.

The adult victims were identified as 26-year-old Oklahoma City resident Leticia Washington-Brown and Lancaster, Texas, residents Terrence Anthony Nash, who was 27, and Shawntrea Bethane Waters, who was 28.

Washington-Brown's niece, 8-year-old Del City resident Jabarious Birdine, and Waters' son, 3-year-old Kylen Smiling, also were killed.

One-year-old Xavien Nash, the son of Nash and Waters, was transported by medical helicopter to an Oklahoma City hospital, where he's listed in good condition.

Pixton says the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
