Tulsa - Tulsa police were called to a deadly hit-and-run in one of the city's most popular night spots. Officers were flagged down in an area of Brookside, around 35th and South Peoria, early Saturday morning.
Now, several families have been torn apart. Joell East says she just had to do something, even though she didn't know any of the victims.
"I had friends who died like that last year. I saw it on the news and it really bothered me," said East.
And for good reason. A bloody and deadly scene unfolded in the parking lot of the old Delta Cafe, just hours before.
Tulsa Police were called to the parking lot about 2a.m. Saturday morning, after witnesses report the driver of a red Chevy Camaro plowed into at least five people. Two were killed and their bodies trapped under the car.
Augustine Miranda is the cousin of one of the victims.
"I couldn't believe it. Everyone was sad," said Miranda.
Investigators say the driver, Andrew Mathis, 24, fled on foot following the incident, but was caught a few blocks away by the TPD K9 unit.
Meanwhile, those out for a Halloween celebration got a rude awakening.
"It's scary. I went home early, but couldn't get my car. It's sad.> Flowers, meanwhile, mark the place where two lives were lost, with many asking the same question -- why?
The two men killed were identified as Dennis Cox and Carlos Lopez. The suspect is facing two counts of first degree murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
