It's hard to imagine anyone escaping damage like what's seen at the Booker home near New Prue. But, what's more amazing is that while the twister was causing the damage, the family of three got out and made it safely into an underground storm shelter.
When the storm struck, Randy Booker, his wife and 14-year-old son were getting ready for bed. Just last week, they moved into their trailer home in southern Osage County between the towns of New Prue and Osage north of Lake Keystone.
Now, their home is completely destroyed. Out of everything that the tornado took away, there is one thing they miss the most.
"My wife lost all of her family pictures," Booker says. "The last two or three years we've lost quite a bit of family. All of our stuff is replaceable as long as we're alive."
Intially trapped under the rubble, Booker needed four stitches for a cut hand. His wife had to have 14 stitches for a cut on her leg and their son survived injury-free. That's what's most important -- all three of them survived.
Volunteers from the Red Cross assisted the Booker family.
Officials with the National Weather Service (web|news) say the tornado touched down about three miles east-southeast of Osage and had a path length of about half a mile long and about 100 yards wide. It will be rated an EF-0.
