Catoosa - Some new paychecks are coming to town. At a time when some jobs are disappearing, one business is going against the national trend.

Over the next six months, the Cherokee Nation is adding four hundred jobs at its casino in Catoosa. When the expansion is completed, the casino will be more than four times its size. That means more gaming, more jobs and more employees.

And, the advertising for those jobs has already started. They're not just the jobs you see, but also the ones you don't, including marketing, finance, engineering and administration. As companies lay off, it seems more people are turning to the Cherokee Casino.

"No matter what your skill set is, no matter what your history is, there is a position at Cherokee," says Teresia Pool, who should know. She was laid off at Winnercom and landed a management job at Cherokee.

"It's not just entry level positions that are hiring, they are hiring at all levels across the board," she says.

And, the jobs are coming because of the expansion of the casino. It's an additional 60-thousand square feet of gaming, convention space and then some. With all that space comes jobs and they haven't had to look very far for workers.

"We have great companies in town that have had spikes, taken it as an opportunity to have really good talent come to us from those companies," says David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Enterprises.

The first phase of expansion will be completed December fifteenth. The remainder will be finished over the next six months.

Ms. Terri
Agni...Are you actually calling all Indians poor?  I find your remark very simple minded and somewhat racist.  Your remark did not even have anything to do with the article!  Get a life! (and perhaps a job)
