Tulsa, OK -
It was a violent weekend for the City of Tulsa. Within an hour, 3 people were murdered Saturday night.
The first murder happened at the Sax Martini Lounge near 6th and Elgin. A man was stabbed to death during his high school reunion.
About an hour later, 2 people were shot to death inside a home on Victor Ave. near Archer.
Tulsa police say, it was an unusual night. However, the two incidents are unrelated and not random.
Police arrested 49-year-old Larry Lewis. He's accused of the reunion stabbing.
Police say, Lewis started fighting with 50-year-old Rodwick Clardy, pulled a knife and stabbed him before running out of the club.
Then just an hour later, police were called to this home where they found 2 men shot to death. Police are looking for Justin Bryant of Modesto, CA as a person of interest.
Police tell us, several suspects busted down the door, told everyone to get on the floor and started shooting. Right now, police don't know how the victims knew the suspects.
Today, we spoke with Sgt. Dedlorn Sanders who responded to both scenes. He says, despite the violence, Tulsa citizens should feel safe.
"Crime is down here in Tulsa and just Saturday night was one of those unusual nights," says Sanders.
But it hasn't been easy for the department. Just last week, the Tulsa Police Department had to cut $2 million out of its budget. That included 3 police officers.
"I don't think it's a budget problem. I think it's a community problem. I think Tulsa as a whole needs to work on our community relations," Sanders says.
A deadly weekend that shows just how vital our police men and women are to keeping Tulsa's streets safe.
