Miami - A former band teacher in the Wyandotte school district has been accused of molesting former students.
Prosecutors in Ottawa County charged 38-year-old Brian Matthew Rash with one count of first-degree rape, one count of attempted first-degree rape, four counts of rape by instrumentation and two counts of lewd and indecent proposal to a child.
Rash was arrested in Jasper County, Missouri. Undersheriff Bob Ernst tells NewsChannel 8 Rash is expected to be extradited back to Ottawa County soon, but couldn't give an exact date.
The allegations arose after Rash's home was vandalized. Ernst says Rash's vehicle was vandalized with writing stating he was a child molester.
During a five-month investigation, two former students came forward with the allegations, including a former student who confessed to the vandalism. Ernst also says Rash allegedly confessed to sexual misconduct with a former band student.
Rash worked at Wyandotte Public Schools from 1997 to 2000.
