Tulsa, Ok - Second only to the hoopla surrounding the buzz of the new Drillers stadium, is the hoopla concerning the fate of the old one.
"People were asking, What are you gonna do with Drillers stadium? And here's what I think should be done with it," said County Commissioner Fred Perry.
So much interest, the county put up a survey on their website. Roughly 2,000 people responded, with answers falling into two main categories; leave it as it is, or demolish it and develop.
"We've had private sector developers kind of throw some ideas out there if the corner was completely re-developed," said Perry.
And whichever way things go, says the Commissioner, consider this, there's another piece to the puzzle.
"And one thing to keep in mind, is that we expect the health department that's adjoining Drillers stadium, we expect that area to be available also," he said.
Perry says the health dept may be moving to a new north side facility within a year, freeing up even more space.
"Instead of 5 1/2 acres which is what Driller's stadium occupies, that's another 1 1/2 acres for a total of 7," he said.
On which, 2 or 3 different uses may be utilized. All of which is still up in the air.
"We don't know which direction we're going to go yet," he said.
Commissioner Perry says he expects the survey results will be released by the end of November.
