Tulsa - It's been a month since builder Grant Cole told his employees that he was filing bankruptcy before abruptly disappearing. On Monday, an attorney took action to find out if there's anything left.

"Today we filed a motion for the appointment of a receiver," said attorney Gabe Lawson.

He's asking the court to put someone in charge of Cole's former company, Oklahoma New Homes, to see if there's any assets. How much is owed?

"From what I can tell, it's in excess of $1 million dollars and potentially up to $2 million dollars," Lawson said.

While the bulk of that money came from home buyers who had signed over bank loans to Cole, a sizeable portion is from Cole's own employees.

"I really thought he was a friend," say former employee Karlie. She says Cole owes her more than $20,000 and owes other employees upwards of $100,000 in total.

She says she has no idea where the money went? "No, no clue. People's houses that we thought were paid weren't paid for, so, its beyond me."

"This gentleman continues to walk free and its frustrating for all," said developer Brandon Perkins. He was burned to the tune of $50,000. He's urging home buyers to do their homework before investing.

"Check with the Better Business Bureau, check with the Home Builders Association. I know Grant made application to the Home Builders Association and couldn't get in." Why not? "...because he had some strikes against him with the Better Business Bureau," Perkins said.

The search is on for Grant Cole. For the man, for the money, for justice.

"He'll get his due, its not only my own personal philosophy. We all get it in the end, not necessarily by the court systems, but by our maker," said Perkins.

My husband was one of  the contractors used by this builder.  He was warned of possible problems before taking on work.  My husband quickly determined that the characcter of this man was less than honest.

He typically covers his materials with his first payment and then on the "finish" is where his (our family!) money is really taken to the bank.  He did the "roughs" and was never asked to return for the "finishes."

My husband has been an electrical contractor for more than 20 years -- a one man show. This would have been devastating for our family finances.  Thankfully my husband was wise quickly.  (He had to seek him out, track him down, and all but force payment.)  My husband has NEVER not been paid--not one time--so there are very good, reliable people out there.

Yes, be warned!  I just read this article to my husband and after calling the man nothing but a shiester (sp?) he laughed and said he was thankful God protected our family from what would have been great difficulty had we not been paid.
