Tulsa - One Tulsa high school has a first -- a full-service restaurant run by students.
The magnet program is a great way to let kids learn 'on the job'. The program is underway at Hale High School near 21st and Sheridan.
The last time we visited Hale to check up on the program, the facility was a fitness center with old exercise equipment. Today, it's a quaint restaurant where students inside are cooking masterpieces.
Hale High now has a full-size, commercial kitchen. Students have created menus and entrees to satisfy their appetites for learning.
The restaurant has been named Nathan's Bistro. Besides great food students are proud of their cleanliness and professionalism.
The health department has been here three times to do work shops and industry experts visit to give tips on customer service.
Students like Trevor Murie hope to become chefs so they want a healthy environment.
"It's really important we actually have the health department comes through and so we have to make sure we normally have to clean as we go, so we don't have to scramble. We like to clean as we go," Trevor says.
The restaurants and there are only 24 seats. But get this. They do take call-ins. It's only open for lunch on Fridays and any profits the students make go toward more groceries and an activity fund.
