Tulsa - Deric Richards scored two first-half touchdowns as Deer Creek-Lamont pulled off the biggest upset of the 2009 high school playoffs, ending Shattuck's state record 93-game win streak, 16-12 Friday night in Shattuck.
The Indians (11-1) hadn't lost a game since falling to Pond Creek-Hunter in a playoff game on November 30, 2002. That's 2,548 days without a loss.
Things appeared to be going as usual when Theo Rea scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter to put Shattuck up 6-0.
But, later in the first, Richards scored on a six-yard run and added a two point conversion catch from Lawson Thompson to give the Eagles (10-2) an 8-6 lead.
In the second quarter, Richards caught a ten-yard scoring pass from Thompson to push the lead to 14-6. Thompson added the two-point conversion run to make it 16-6 at halftime.
Shattuck finally got back in the game in the fourth quarter when Brandt Starbuck connected with Kelby Shick on a 55-yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion run failed, leaving the Indians still trailing by four, 16-12.
But, it was the last time the Indians would reach the end zone. Deer Creek-Lamont held on for the stunning victory and will play next week against Timberlake in the Class C semifinals.
